Avengers: Doomsday: Doom has finally shown up in the Marvel world, but not in a big, flashy way. Robert Downey Jr is now playing the famous villain and he quietly appeared at the end of the new movie Fantastic Four: First Steps. It was a short scene after the credits rolled, and it seems to be setting up the story for the next big Marvel film, Avengers: Doomsday.
In that scene, Doom is seen sneaking into the house of the Fantastic Four. He walks into their living room and heads toward their son, Franklin Richards. Franklin is the child of Reed and Sue, who are played by Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby. Franklin looks like he has some kind of superpower that could be very important later on.
Doom doesn’t speak a word in the scene. But he does something rare. He takes off his mask and shows his face to Franklin. This is unusual because in the comics, Doom almost never removes his mask. But of course, it makes sense since Robert Downey Jr is now playing him. Marvel wouldn’t want to hide a huge star like him behind a mask for long.
A report from Variety shared that since 2008, Downey Jr has already earned between $500 and $600 million from Marvel for his role as Tony Stark. He has done seven main movies and three cameo appearances. And now with Doomsday and Secret Wars coming up, he’s expected to earn even more. These two films are being described as some of Marvel’s biggest and boldest projects yet. But fans are a little worried about how things are being handled behind the scenes.
Kevin Feige, who leads Marvel Studios, confirmed that the script for Avengers: Doomsday is still being changed even as filming is happening. He told The Hollywood Reporter that this is actually a good thing. He explained that the actors, both new and old, know their characters really well. So when they come up with ideas on set, the writers and directors are willing to listen and make changes right away. He believes this helps make the movie better, not worse.
Now all eyes are on Avengers: Doomsday. Fans are hoping that all these risks and last-minute changes will come together to make something really exciting. Only time will tell.
Avengers: Doomsday release date: Has there been a delay in Avengers: Doomsday release
Avengers: Doomsday was supposed to come out on the 1st of May 2026. But now, the release has been delayed. The new date is 18th December 2026. So fans will have to wait a bit longer to see it.
Interestingly, the new release date means the movie will be coming out on the same day as the sequel to Dune: Part Two, which is called Dune: Messiah. That’s going to be a big day for cinema lovers, with two huge movies releasing together.
As for the original May slot that Doomsday left behind, Disney has decided to use that for another major release. That month will now see the arrival of the long-awaited sequel to The Devil Wears Prada. Fans of that film have been waiting years for a follow-up, so this news brings some extra excitement to the summer lineup.
Avengers: Doomsday confirmed cast
In Avengers: Doomsday, Robert Downey Jr is playing a brand-new role as Victor Von Doom. He is going to be a massive threat, one powerful enough that several superhero teams have to join forces just to take him on. So far, we don’t know exactly what Doom’s plan is. It hasn’t been revealed whether he has any ties to Downey Jr’s old character, Iron Man. But whatever he’s up to, it calls for major backup from across the Marvel universe.
The movie is bringing together a huge number of characters. Not just the Avengers, but also the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, and even the Thunderbolts. On top of that, unexpected characters like Namor and Loki will show up. What side they’re on remains to be seen, since both are known to switch loyalties.
Anthony Mackie is back as Sam Wilson, now the new Captain America. He was given the job of forming a fresh Avengers team at the end of his last solo film. That new lineup will probably include characters like Shuri as the new Black Panther, Thor, Shang-Chi, Ant-Man, and the new Falcon played by Danny Ramirez.
The entire Fantastic Four team from the recent film First Steps is also returning. That includes Pedro Pascal as Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing. There was a bit of confusion when the film’s director said that Mr. Fantastic would become the Avengers’ new leader. But Pedro Pascal later joked that this news was new even to him and said that while the idea comes from the comics, it may not be true for the movie.
There’s more. Marvel has decided to bring back several old cast members from the older X-Men movies, likely because of the success of Deadpool & Wolverine. So Channing Tatum will finally appear as Gambit, and old favourites like Professor X, Magneto, Mystique, Nightcrawler, Cyclops, and Beast are all coming back too.
The cast of Thunderbolts will also be involved in Doomsday. That includes Florence Pugh as Black Widow, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, Wyatt Russell as USAgent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, David Harbour as Red Guardian, and Lewis Pullman as Sentry.
So all in all, this movie is shaping up to be one of the biggest Marvel events yet. With so many characters and teams involved, it’s no wonder fans are buzzing with excitement and curiosity.

A lot of fans have noticed that some big Marvel names are missing from the confirmed cast of Avengers: Doomsday. People were expecting to see Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, Star-Lord, Hulk, and Scarlet Witch. But none of them have been officially announced yet. This has caused a bit of an uproar online, especially since these characters have played major roles in the past.
Still, Marvel is hinting that not all hope is lost. On social media, the studio has teased that there’s “always room for more,” which makes it sound like more announcements could still come. That means these characters might still be involved in some way, even if it’s later in the story.
There’s also been no official update yet on Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. But now that so many X-Men characters are returning, it feels hard to imagine this movie without him. When Jackman was asked about it during an interview on The View, he gave a cheeky answer. He joked about “dominating” the film, but then claimed he had nothing to add. So, it’s not a yes, but it’s not exactly a no either.
It’s worth remembering that Avengers: Doomsday is only part one of a two-part story. The big finale will be Secret Wars, which comes out in 2027. That sequel could still bring in more heroes who aren’t showing up in Doomsday. For example, Benedict Cumberbatch has already said he will appear in Secret Wars as Doctor Strange. He also teased that Marvel is preparing something huge for this storyline.
The situation with Chris Evans is more puzzling. Earlier reports said he would return in Doomsday. But Evans himself recently told a news outlet that he hasn’t been invited back. He said it’s sad not to be returning, but he’s sure the movie will be amazing. He sounded sincere, but fans remember how Andrew Garfield denied being in Spider-Man: No Way Home right up until the release. So there’s a chance Evans could be keeping things quiet on purpose.
Interestingly, it’s been confirmed that Hayley Atwell is coming back as Peggy Carter in Doomsday. That adds more fuel to the rumor fire. Since her story with Steve Rogers had such a beautiful ending in Endgame, it would be strange to bring her back without also bringing back Captain America in some form.
In the end, Marvel is keeping a lot under wraps. There’s still time for surprises, and given how big this story is shaping up to be, fans are hoping for some epic last-minute reveals.
Avengers: Doomsday plot details
Right now, Marvel hasn’t shared an official plot for Avengers: Doomsday. But we know the movie is going to bring Victor von Doom fully into the spotlight. He’s expected to become one of the biggest threats in the entire Marvel multiverse.
He actually showed up very briefly at the end of Fantastic Four: First Steps. In the scene, he walks into a room where Franklin Richards, the son of Mr Fantastic and Invisible Woman, is playing. Franklin is only four years old, but has crazy powerful abilities. Doom doesn’t say anything, but the way the scene is shot hints that he’s there for a reason. What he wants with the child is still a mystery.

Avengers: Doomsday and the next film, Secret Wars, are going to be deeply connected. Just like how Infinity War led directly into Endgame, these two movies will be two halves of one massive story. The filmmakers are keeping most of it under wraps, but co-director Joe Russo did say in an interview that what they’ve planned is bold and unexpected. He said it might even challenge the audience.
The story might take ideas from the 2016 Secret Wars comic series. In that version, Doctor Doom takes pieces from broken universes and creates a strange new world called Battleworld. He becomes ruler of that world and acts like a god. Before all that happens, though, the comics talk about something called “incursions.” That’s when different universes crash into each other and cause total destruction.
It’s possible that in the movie, these kinds of universe-collisions might begin to happen. Doom could then try to take control by building his own new reality. That would leave tons of questions for Secret Wars to answer later.
The post-credits scene of Thunderbolts* also hints at this. In that scene, Yelena talks about a huge space problem. She’s frustrated because her team of New Avengers isn’t taken seriously, while Sam Wilson’s team gets more respect. Then, something major happens. The Fantastic Four’s ship enters the Earth’s atmosphere. That moment feels big. They’re probably coming to warn everyone about the danger ahead.
That post-credits scene was actually filmed on the set of Avengers: Doomsday. The director of Thunderbolts*, Jake Schreier, said the scene was meant to give a small sneak peek of what’s coming next.
There’s even more tension teased. Actor Alan Cumming, who plays Nightcrawler, said he’s filming an action scene where he hits Pedro Pascal’s Mr Fantastic in the head. That suggests there will be some serious disagreements, at least at first. But they’ll probably team up eventually to face a bigger enemy.
Don’t expect a clean ending. Captain America actor Anthony Mackie said the movie will end on a major cliffhanger. He compared it to the shocking ending of Infinity War, where half of all life vanished. He also said the final moments of Doomsday will lead straight into the future of Marvel’s story.
He warned that no one is safe this time. Anyone could be taken out. And that makes the stakes feel even higher. Director Anthony Russo also said that the story they’re telling now is the one that made it worth coming back. He told fans they should get excited about what’s coming next.
Is there an Avengers: Doomsday trailer?
There’s no trailer or teaser yet. But as soon as Marvel drops anything, this page will be updated right away. Stay tuned.
