Aubrey Plaza recently shared a wild and humorous story about her experience with Patti LuPone while promoting Agatha All Along on Late Night With Seth Meyers on September 26, 2024. Reflecting on their time together in an off-Broadway production of Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, Plaza recalled a particularly alarming incident when she felt unwell during the run of the play.

Plaza explained that LuPone suggested she see a “special nurse” named Joe, who was known for helping people feel better. However, the encounter didn’t go as planned. While LuPone was out for an event, Joe came over to treat Plaza, who was hoping for a simple remedy. Instead, Joe hooked her up for an IV and offered her the so-called “Patti Special,” which she agreed to try.

To Plaza’s surprise, she was given an intravenous dose of Benadryl, which she expected to be mild like children’s Benadryl. Instead, she described the effect as feeling like “a horse tranquilizer,” leaving her unable to speak or think clearly by the time LuPone returned. In a slurred voice, Plaza humorously mimicked her conversation with LuPone, saying, “Joe, am I alright? Am I gonna make it?”

Even LuPone was a bit taken aback by Plaza’s condition, offering her a peanut butter English muffin in an attempt to help. Plaza described the scene of them sitting together in the living room, with LuPone feeding her the muffin while they shared a laugh over the situation.

The lighthearted story adds to the fun of Agatha All Along, which continues the story of Agatha Harkness, portrayed by Kathryn Hahn. The Disney+ series features a talented cast, including Joe Locke and Debra Jo Rupp, alongside Plaza and LuPone.
