Actress Ashley Park, currently filming Emily in Paris in Rome, has come under fire for a video in which she appeared to mock the recent election of Pope Leo XIV — the first American to lead the Catholic Church.

In the clip, Park is seen in a lighthearted mood, joking with her hair and makeup team about the new Pope’s election. She asked, “Does anyone care?” to which hairstylist Carole Nicolas responded sarcastically, “Fantastic.” Park and her crew laughed, and Park ended the video with a playful remark, “We’re here and we heard the church bells a’ringing!”

However, many viewers found the video disrespectful. Social media users quickly voiced their displeasure, with some calling Park’s behavior “ugly inside and out” and demanding a formal apology. One commenter wrote, “She has to apologise for what she did!”

On the other hand, some fans defended Park, saying her comment wasn’t intended to mock or offend. One user stated, “Asking if someone cares isn’t offensive,” while another argued, “That’s not mocking. You guys are reaching big time on this.”

Pope Leo XIV was officially appointed on May 8, succeeding the late Pope Francis and making history as the first American to become head of the Vatican.

Meanwhile, Ashley Park continues filming the eagerly awaited fifth season of Netflix’s Emily in Paris, reprising her role as Mindy alongside Lily Collins, Lucas Bravo, and others. The new season is scheduled to premiere later in 2025.
