Arsenal is very close to completing the signing of Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP. Talks have progressed well in recent days, with Arsenal raising their fixed offer to €63.5 million (about £54 million), plus €10 million in potential bonus payments. The final sticking point is how those bonus payments are structured.
Sporting wants the entire €10 million to be tied to realistic and achievable targets. Arsenal’s latest offer includes €3 million in easier goals and €7 million linked to tougher milestones, which Sporting rejected. They’re holding firm on their terms and waiting for Arsenal to send a revised proposal, which is expected soon.
Helping move things forward, Gyokeres’ agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, has waived his usual 10 per cent commission to push the deal through. This allowed Arsenal to raise their base offer and meet Sporting’s financial demands without extra fees attached.
Gyokeres has already agreed to personal terms with Arsenal on a five-year contract and has spoken with Mikel Arteta about his role at the club. He hasn’t reported for preseason training with Sporting, and while no official explanation has been given, it signals his intent to leave. If he remains absent, Sporting may consider disciplinary action.
The Swedish striker remains under contract with Sporting until 2028, but all signs point to a transfer happening soon. A key round of talks is scheduled for Tuesday in London, with his agent in the city to help wrap up the deal.
In another development, Arsenal are set to sign Spanish centre-back Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia. The 19-year-old played nearly every minute of last season for the La Liga club and is due to undergo a medical on Wednesday. The transfer fee is expected to be around £16.5 million (\$22 million). Mosquera expressed mixed emotions about leaving Valencia, saying that while it will always be his home, it’s time for a new chapter.
