Apple could be getting ready to launch MacBook Pro models with touchscreens. This is a big deal because Apple has never allowed users to tap and swipe on their laptop screens before.
Reports say the first MacBook Pro with this feature will also come with a new OLED display. Samsung is likely making the panels, and large-scale production could start by the end of 2026. If all goes as planned, the first touchscreen MacBook Pro might arrive in early 2027.
Industry expert Ming-Chi Kuo explained that Apple has been watching how people use iPads for years. They noticed that touchscreens can make certain tasks easier and improve the overall experience. Bringing touch to MacBooks could also make the gap between Macs and iPads a little smaller, since both devices would then share more similarities.
Another well-known reporter, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, also mentioned Apple’s OLED MacBook Pro plans. At first, it was expected to launch with the M6 chip, but now people think the M7 chip could power it instead.
It’s not yet clear if Apple will go further and add features like a foldable 360-degree hinge or support for the Apple Pencil. Those details are still up in the air.
On top of this, Apple is also developing a cheaper MacBook. This one is expected to cost around 700 dollars and use the same A18 Pro chip found in the iPhone 16 Pro. The first version will not have a touchscreen. But Kuo suggested that the second-generation budget MacBook, possibly coming in 2027, could include touch support if Apple decides to move in that direction.
