Apple brings advanced video editing to all iPhones with iOS 18

Apple’s new video editing feature in iOS 18 allows iPhone users to adjust playback speeds after recording. This function is available on all iPhones running iOS 18, not just the latest iPhone 16 models. Additionally, iOS 18 introduces the Repair Assistant tool for configuring replaced iPhone parts.

At its “It’s Glowtime” event on September 9, Apple announced a new video editing feature for iPhones running iOS 18. This feature will allow users to adjust the playback speed of their videos directly on their devices. Though first highlighted with premium features for the iPhone 16 Pro, this capability is accessible to all iPhones running iOS 18, including the newest iPhone 16 models and even older devices like the iPhone XS.

The new feature integrates into the Photos app on iOS 18. Users can access it by tapping a stopwatch icon when viewing a video, which then opens a ‘Playback Speed’ menu. This menu provides various frame-rate options, including 120fps, 60fps, 30fps, and 24fps, allowing users to adjust the video’s playback speed after it has been recorded. This flexibility means users can modify their video speeds without needing to decide on a frame rate before shooting, offering greater control over the final output.

In addition to this video editing enhancement, iOS 18 introduces the Repair Assistant tool. This tool allows users to configure replaced iPhone parts as genuine Apple components, provided they are indeed official parts. For example, if an iPhone display is replaced with an Apple-certified screen, users can use the Repair Assistant to ensure features like True Tone and automatic brightness work correctly. This tool can be accessed through the Settings app under About > Parts and Service, guiding users through the configuration process.

The Repair Assistant, first introduced in April 2024, is now part of iOS 18, helping users manage their iPhone repairs more efficiently, whether performed by themselves or through third-party services.
