Anthony Mackie, known for his role as Sam Wilson/Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is gearing up for his next superhero adventure as Captain America in the upcoming film “Captain America: Brave New World.” While promoting another project, “Twisted Metal,” in the UK, Mackie shared insights into the differences between working on Marvel movies and other projects like “Twisted Metal.”

According to Mackie, the Marvel universe offers a controlled entertainment space with limitations on creativity due to the vast content provided by Stan Lee. In contrast, projects like “Twisted Metal” provide more storytelling freedom, allowing for the creation and disposal of characters at will.

Mackie highlighted the challenge of staying within the confines of the Marvel comic book universe, where introductions and character developments must align with established canon. He expressed appreciation for the flexibility afforded by projects like “Twisted Metal,” where the creative process is more open-ended and spontaneous.

Directed by Julius Onah and co-written by Malcolm Spellman, “Captain America: Brave New World” features a star-studded cast, including Harrison Ford as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, Liv Tyler, Tim Blake Nelson, Shira Haas, and Danny Ramirez. The film is set to hit theaters on February 14, 2025.

Despite his excitement for his new role as Captain America, Mackie expressed disappointment over “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” not getting a second season. He enjoyed working on the series and looked forward to continuing the journey with his co-stars. However, the transition back to the movies meant leaving behind the camaraderie he shared with his friends on the show, which he found bittersweet.
