Angel Reese is in the middle of a strong sophomore season with the Chicago Sky, building on the momentum of her standout rookie year. While team wins have been hard to come by, her presence on the court has made the Sky more competitive. As the team heads into the final stretch of the season, keeping Reese on the floor will be critical, but there’s one big issue hanging over her: technical fouls.
Reese has picked up seven technical fouls in the first 22 games of the 2025 WNBA season. Under league rules, a player is automatically suspended for one game without pay after receiving eight technical fouls. That means Reese is now just one technical foul away from being sidelined.
Her most recent technical came during Chicago’s loss to the Minnesota Lynx on Tuesday, July 22. The Sky still have 21 regular-season games left on the schedule, which means Reese will need to play clean basketball the rest of the way to avoid missing time due to suspension, unless one of her technicals is later rescinded.
The WNBA raised the technical foul limit this year in response to the longer season. Each team now plays 44 games, up from 40 last season, when Reese was a rookie. Along with suspensions, technical fouls also come with fines, and any missed game due to suspension results in a lost paycheck.
Reese’s energy and intensity are key parts of her game, but as Chicago fights to stay in the playoff mix, her ability to stay on the court and out of foul trouble could be the difference between making a run or falling short.
