America First Legal (AFL) has filed a lawsuit against Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office, demanding access to communications and documents related to the prosecution of former President Donald Trump.
The lawsuit, filed on Monday morning, seeks records of any interactions between Bragg’s office and the Biden-Harris campaign, the Democratic National Committee (DNC), as well as other organizations such as Color of Change and CREW. AFL is also looking for documentation on efforts to raise funds related to the Trump prosecution in the New York v. Trump case.
The suit targets potential coordination between Bragg’s office and various political groups, including allegations of communication with Judge Juan Merchan’s daughter, Loren Merchan, who operates a Democrat-affiliated political consulting firm. AFL Vice President Dan Epstein has criticized the lack of transparency, suggesting that there may be politically motivated activities behind the scenes.
In a related move, AFL sued Judge Merchan last week for failing to release his financial disclosures, which are mandated under New York law. The CEO of Authentic Campaigns, a firm run by Loren Merchan, has denied allegations of political bias.
Trump, who was found guilty on all counts in a criminal trial related to falsifying business records, has pleaded not guilty and is seeking to appeal the verdict. Sentencing for Trump is set for November 26, following a request to delay it until after the presidential election.
