In the final hours of Liam Payne’s life, he was accompanied by his steadfast friend, Rogelio “Roger” Nores, a prominent Argentine entrepreneur known for his achievements in the energy sector. The unlikely friendship between Payne, the former One Direction star, and Nores, who had no ties to the music industry, began at a dinner hosted by Edward Enninful in London in 2020. Despite their contrasting backgrounds, the two formed a deep bond that would become a source of support for Payne during challenging times.
Liam Payne and Rogelio Nores friendship:
Nores, a graduate of Buenos Aires’ Universidad Torcuato Di Tella, founded Stoneway Capital, earning him a place on Forbes’ 2018 “30 Under 30” list for the energy sector. Known for his disciplined lifestyle, Nores never indulged in drugs or heavy partying, which made him an unusual but stabilizing presence in Payne’s life. Friends noted how Nores’ influence helped Payne navigate his struggles with addiction, with the businessman playing a vital role in keeping him on the path to sobriety.
Over the past two years, Payne faced several difficult periods, including his high-profile breakup with model Maya Henry, daughter of prominent Texas attorney Thomas J. Henry. Earlier this year, he moved to Palm Beach, Florida, where he rented a $9,500-a-month Spanish-style mansion with social media influencer Kate Cassidy. Nores, who owns an apartment in Miami Beach, remained a close presence, with the two often spending time together, whether bowling or at the recording studio.
This summer, Payne returned to the UK to film Building the Band, a Netflix series featuring Nicole Scherzinger and Kelly Rowland. Nores reportedly expressed concern, fearing the singer might relapse in an environment filled with past temptations. In an email to Payne’s father and management, Nores detailed his concerns, citing Payne’s four months of sobriety and stressing the need for close medical supervision.
Despite their strong friendship, rumors swirled about the pair’s relationship, which Payne once clarified on Snapchat, stating, “There was a lot of things in magazines saying me and Roger are gay together — not true, unfortunately.” The bond was strictly platonic, with Payne often seeking Nores’ guidance.
