As Alec Pierce enters the final year of his rookie deal with the Indianapolis Colts, contract extension questions are starting to surface, but the wide receiver says his focus remains squarely on the field.

Speaking to the media after training camp practice on Saturday, Pierce said he hasn’t spent much time thinking about his future deal just yet.

“I haven’t really thought about it too much,” he admitted. “Play the season out, see where things go.” He did mention that his agent may have already had preliminary talks with the Colts’ front office, but Pierce is letting those conversations happen behind the scenes.

The 2022 second-round pick had a slow start to his career, posting modest numbers in his first two seasons, 41 catches for 593 yards in 2022, then slipping slightly in 2023 with just 32 receptions for 513 yards. But that changed in a big way last year.

In 2024, Pierce had a breakout campaign, recording 824 receiving yards on just 34 catches, an eye-popping 22.3 yards per reception, the highest mark in the NFL. He also led the Colts in receiving yards and touchdowns (7), proving his ability as a deep-threat weapon.

His surge came at a crucial time, especially after the Colts added rookie wideout Adonai Mitchell in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Rather than shy away from the competition, Pierce thrived under pressure and elevated his game.

If he continues this upward trajectory, Pierce could command a strong deal when he hits free agency after the 2025 season. But for now, the 24-year-old is staying grounded.

Rather than get caught up in contract chatter, Pierce is locked in on continuing his growth and helping the Colts make a playoff run. Whether that leads to a new deal in Indy or interest elsewhere, he’s letting his play do the talking, and so far, it’s speaking loud and clear
