At 84, Hollywood icon Al Pacino is relishing the joys of fatherhood once again. In a recent interview with the BBC, the actor opened up about the experience of being a new dad to his one-year-old son, Roman, whom he shares with movie producer Noor Alfallah. Pacino’s reflections come alongside the release of his memoir Sonny Boy, which offers a deeply personal glimpse into his life and legacy, written in part for his young son.
Al Pacino on bonding with his one-year old:
Despite the generational gap, Pacino has found unique ways to bond with Roman, sharing that he “texts” his son “from time to time” and that it’s “fun” staying connected through technology. The actor expressed his deep affection for Roman, adding that even at his advanced age, he wants to be actively involved in his son’s life. “I want to be around for this child. And I hope I am,” Pacino said, underscoring his hope to remain healthy and present as Roman grows up.
Pacino and Alfallah, who are no longer together, maintain a co-parenting relationship, according to the BBC report. Despite their separation, Pacino is committed to forming a meaningful connection with his son, stating that “everything Roman does is real” and deeply fascinating to him.
In addition to texting, the Academy Award-winning actor shared that he and Roman also engage in video calls, where Pacino even plays the harmonica for his son, fostering what he described as a unique and personal bond.
The legendary actor, best known for iconic roles in films such as The Godfather and Scarface, has previously spoken about the complexities of fatherhood, but at 84, this chapter of his life has taken on new meaning. With Sonny Boy now available, Pacino hopes his memoir will offer Roman a chance to understand his father’s legacy and the many facets of his life.
As Pacino reflects on his new role as a father, it’s clear that, even after decades of stardom, he finds joy and fulfillment in the simple, everyday moments spent connecting with his young son.
