Steven Tyler’s daughter, Mia Tyler, recently revealed the surprising reason behind her father’s iconic scarf tied around his microphone during performances. On the Sibling Revelry podcast, Mia shared that the scarves weren’t just a stage accessory but a clever way for Tyler to hide pills. According to Mia, the Aerosmith frontman would often stash his pills in the scarf and even had small pockets sewn into his outfits for “whatever he was ingesting.”

Her sister, Liv Tyler, also added that their father was “pretty wild” in those days and openly admitted to using drugs. Steven Tyler’s history with addiction has been well-documented, and Mia’s comments shed light on just how deeply it affected his life during the height of Aerosmith’s fame.

Tyler had been sober for almost a decade before relapsing in 2022 following foot surgery, which led to the cancellation of part of Aerosmith’s Las Vegas residency. He voluntarily entered a treatment program to focus on his recovery, as stated by the band.

The musician’s history with addiction started in his teenage years when he first experimented with drugs, and his struggles have affected his family, including Liv, who was raised by her grandmother due to his addiction issues. Tyler has since gone through rehab multiple times, and his journey to sobriety continues to be a part of his personal and professional story.
