Adam Sandler is officially returning to the golf course with Happy Gilmore 2, the long-awaited sequel to his beloved 1996 comedy. Netflix has dropped the first teaser for the film, which sees Sandler’s character, Happy Gilmore, back in action as a hockey player-turned-golf star after a long hiatus from the sport.
In the trailer, Happy reflects on not having swung a golf club in years, with familiar faces like Virginia Venit (Julie Bowen) returning to support him, encouraging him to show the world the same Happy they once adored. The film promises to bring back the over-the-top humor and slapstick comedy the original was known for, while also incorporating some more realistic moments in the world of golf.
The sequel will feature cameos from a star-studded lineup, including NFL star Travis Kelce, music icons Bad Bunny and Eminem, and comedy legend Ben Stiller, who returns to the role of the antagonistic shooter. Real-life golf pros like Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau also make appearances, adding a layer of authenticity to the film’s golf sequences.
Pro Shop Studios, a production company involved in the film, helped bring a sense of realism to the sport, inspired by Sandler’s work on his 2022 basketball film Hustle. Producer Chad Mumm explained that while the tone of Happy Gilmore 2 remains comedic, they aimed to make the golf scenes as authentic as possible, incorporating both present-day and historical golfers for cameos.
Fans of the original can expect plenty of nostalgia, laughs, and an exciting mix of comedy and real golf moments when Happy Gilmore 2 hits Netflix on July 25.
