Back in 2016, Adam DeVine and Zac Efron were the bromance duo of the year, starring together in Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates. However, after the film’s release, the two drifted apart. Recently, DeVine shared a bizarre interaction he had with his former co-star during a podcast appearance.
On the In Depth with Graham Bensinger podcast, the Pitch Perfect star opened up about an unexpected call he received from Zac Efron about six months ago. “Zac calls me — he hasn’t called me in a couple of years — and calls me out of the blue, and he’s on some private island somewhere,” DeVine recounted.
After some catching up and “miss-yous,” Efron reportedly asked if he could stay at DeVine’s beach house for two weeks. “He’s like, ‘Hey man, I just want to let you know that I miss you.’ And I’m like, ‘I miss you too, dude. You’re a good friend of mine, yada yada.’ And he’s like, ‘You still have that place down by the beach?’” DeVine explained.
Once DeVine confirmed, Efron asked, “Would it be cool if I came and crashed with you for two weeks?” Though a bit caught off guard, DeVine agreed, telling Efron, “Yeah, come stay with me.” They made plans to finalize the details the next day, with Zac saying he’d call for the address and would be at DeVine’s house the following week.
However, the call never came.
DeVine revealed, “And then he ghosted me, dude. Never called back. I even texted him, ‘Are you gonna stay here?’ and I haven’t talked with him since.” The actor admitted he was left confused by the whole situation, saying, “I have no idea” what to make of the odd interaction.
It seems the mystery of Zac Efron’s sudden disappearance remains unsolved for now.
