Actor David Corenswet talks about the difficulties of wearing the Superman suit

Wearing the Superman costume might sound super exciting, but actor David Corenswet recently shared that it’s not as simple as it looks. He’s playing the iconic superhero in the new movie coming this July, directed by James Gunn, and while the role is a big honour, the costume came with some unexpected struggles.

One of the biggest problems? Going to the bathroom. David said the suit has plenty of zippers, but none that help when you need a quick bathroom break. You’d think that would be a basic thing to include, but he explained that changing the design would have been too expensive, so he just had to deal with it.

Thankfully, he had some help on set. David mentioned his amazing dresser, Scotty, who became his go-to guy during long shooting days. Scotty was super quick at helping him get in and out of the suit and even made up excuses for him if he needed to step away. That made the whole process a lot easier to handle.

But even the first time David tried on the suit wasn’t very exciting. He said it was actually underwhelming because it wasn’t finished yet—it was missing the famous “S” logo and didn’t fully feel like Superman. Additionally, the suit was quite tight, as it had been made before he gained around 40 pounds of muscle for the role.

David also shared that the suit felt claustrophobic at first. He could feel how tight it was all over his body, which made it hard to relax. This isn’t unusual, many actors who play superheroes say the same thing about their costumes. Even though it wasn’t the most comfortable experience, David admitted that the suit looks great and fits the version of Superman he’s trying to play.

His Superman is supposed to feel powerful but also kind and approachable, especially to kids. That’s why the costume uses brighter colors and keeps that classic, friendly vibe. Fans have already seen the suit in teasers, and it’s only made them more excited to see David take flight on the big screen.
