A$AP Rocky is gearing up for his Cannes film debut with Highest 2 Lowest, directed by the legendary Spike Lee. But while he’s promoting this major milestone, the rapper-turned-actor already has his sights set on an exciting future project—collaborating on-screen with his long-time partner, Rihanna.

The film, a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s classic High and Low starring Denzel Washington, marks a significant step in Rocky’s evolving career. In a recent interview with Variety, Rocky opened up about his creative journey, fatherhood, and his dreams of acting alongside the Diamonds singer.

Though Rihanna has previously appeared in his music videos for “D.M.B.” and “Fashion Killa,” Rocky is eager to take their collaboration to the next level with official acting credits. When asked about starring alongside her in a movie, his response was an enthusiastic, “Hell, yeah.”

He praised Rihanna’s on-screen presence, noting, “You saw her acting in my film [the 2022 music video] D.M.B. You saw her acting in [my 2013 music video] Fashion Killa.

Rihanna herself is busy with upcoming projects, including lending her voice to the new Smurfs movie. Rocky called that “gangster,” and marveled at how both their big-screen projects are launching in the same year. “Yo, this shit is jokes though. We both got movies coming out the same year. I didn’t even realize that. Wow! Shout-outs to us — we’ve been working!”

Fans can catch A$AP Rocky alongside Denzel Washington in Spike Lee’s Highest 2 Lowest, hitting limited theaters on August 22 and streaming exclusively on Apple TV+ from A24.
