That would have been an iconic collaboration! The combination of Madonna, Barbra Streisand, and Bette Midler on Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better would have blended Broadway theatricality with pop and diva-level drama in the best way. The concept of Madonna and Midler playfully feuding in a ladies’ room, only for Streisand to step in as the voice of reason, sounds like pure entertainment gold.
It’s interesting that Madonna pulled out at the last minute—considering her bold personality, one would think she’d love a chance to spar vocally with two legendary performers. Maybe creative differences or scheduling conflicts played a role?
Even though this project never materialized, it’s fun to imagine how it might have sounded.
