A new book about the British royal family and UK politicians is set to release on September 11, 2025. Titled Power and the Palace: The Inside Story of the Monarchy and 10 Downing Street, the book by Valentine Low looks closely at how the monarchy and government have interacted over the past 20 years, based on around 100 interviews.

An excerpt published in The Times shared a personal story about Queen Camilla. It reveals that when she was about 16 or 17, she was travelling on a train to Paddington and a man tried to assault her. Following her mother’s advice, she struck him with her heel and reported him when she got off the train.

The excerpt also mentions a meeting between Queen Camilla and then-London Mayor Boris Johnson, who was discussing plans to open three rape crisis centres in London. During the conversation, she shared her personal experience, which likely influenced her later work in supporting survivors.

Queen Camilla has long focused on helping victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, and abuse. She has hosted events at Buckingham Palace to honor supporters of survivors and has relaunched projects like the Wash Bags Project to provide essential items to those in need. She has also personally reached out to survivors to commend their courage.
