Bugonia is still having a tough time at the US box office. After its third weekend, the movie is stuck with the same number of theatres, but the audience response continues to be weak. Even though critics have praised it, the sci fi black comedy thriller has not been able to bring in big crowds. With new movies releasing on Friday, its numbers are expected to fall even more.

Bugonia is directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. It first released in a few theatres on October twenty four. A week later, on Halloween Friday, it expanded to more than two thousand theatres across the US. During that first wide weekend, it earned around five million dollars.

Now, in its latest weekend, the film has dropped by a little over thirty percent and made around three point five million dollars. It did manage to make more than one million dollars on each day of the weekend. Still, these steady daily numbers are not enough to lift its overall performance.

So far, Bugonia has collected twenty three point one million dollars worldwide. Out of this, twelve point three million dollars came from the US and ten point eight million dollars came from international markets. The small boost it got last weekend helped it pass Dwayne Johnson’s film The Smashing Machine, which earned eleven point three million dollars domestically. Bugonia had already done better than that movie overseas and worldwide. Now it has crossed it in domestic earnings too.

Even though Bugonia is bringing in stable weekday numbers and may add another million in the coming weekend, its journey at the box office still feels underwhelming. Its strong reviews have not been enough to pull bigger audiences. The film seems to be quietly approaching the end of its theatrical run.
