Global girl group KATSEYE has been taking the world by storm with their music, talent, and confidence on stage. But behind all the fame and glamour, the members have been dealing with something far darker. In a recent BBC interview, the six members, Sophia Laforteza, Manon Bannerman, Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel, and Yoonchae Jeung, opened up about the heavy emotional toll of receiving constant hate and threats online.
KATSEYE member Lara Raj opens up about receiving over 1000 death threats
Lara Raj revealed that she has received over a thousand death threats. She said the experience has been “heavy” and “jarring.” Lara admitted that even though she tries to remind herself not to take online comments seriously, it’s not easy. “We’re humans,” she said honestly. “If a thousand people are sending you death threats, it’s jarring. Even if it’s not going to happen, it still feels heavy.” Her words show how cruel online spaces can become, especially for public figures who are simply trying to do their work.
The other members also reflected on how negativity affects them. Sophia shared that no one should have to face so much backlash for simply creating something they love. She said it’s not natural for any person to receive so much feedback at once, whether it’s good or bad. Sophia added that the group is learning to focus on their passion and avoid letting public opinion define their worth. “We just try to do what we love and not let online reactions become our reason for doing it,” she explained.
At the same time, Sophia admitted that being in the spotlight is part of their reality. “We know it’s part of fame,” she said. “We are human, and we can have those feelings.” Her words reflect a balance between understanding the demands of fame and protecting their mental health.
Despite the negativity, KATSEYE continues to rise higher in the music world. Since their debut, they’ve topped charts and built a massive international fanbase. Their success has now earned them a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, which will take place on February 1, 2026. They’ll be competing alongside artists like Olivia Dean, The Marias, Addison Rae, Sombr, Leon Thomas, Alex Warren, and Lola Young.
Through all the hate and pressure, KATSEYE’s story reminds everyone that fame doesn’t make you immune to pain. Behind the spotlight are six young women chasing their dreams, trying to stay strong, and continuing to create music that connects with millions.
