The newly announced Halo: Campaign Evolved is a full remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved, and it marks a huge moment for the series, it’s coming to PlayStation for the very first time. But there’s one big thing missing: multiplayer.

The game will only include the story campaign. According to executive producer Damon Conn, this was a deliberate choice. In a post on Xbox Wire, Conn explained that by focusing purely on the campaign, the team can put all their attention on recreating the mood, tone, and emotional impact that made the first Halo adventure so unforgettable.

Even without multiplayer, the remake isn’t just a visual upgrade. It’s being built in Unreal Engine 5 and includes several new features. Players will get to experience three brand-new prequel missions that weren’t part of the 2001 release, and for the first time in Halo’s original story, the Master Chief will be able to sprint.

Conn said the team wanted to “start where it all began,” giving both longtime fans and new players a way to experience the story from the very beginning. This approach also helps set up the foundation for future Halo projects, including what’s rumored to be a new live-service Halo title that’s expected to follow.

Halo: Campaign Evolved is set to launch in 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. A specific release date and pricing haven’t been revealed yet, but a trailer is already out showing the first look at the reimagined classic.
