Retro Games Limited has brought back the magic of the classic Commodore 64 with a fresh new version, The C64 Mini Black Edition. This special release celebrates today’s creative developers who are still making games for the legendary computer. It comes with 89 games in total, the original 64 classics plus 25 modern hits like Sam’s Journey and A Pig Quest.

The Black Edition costs $120 and is only available on Amazon in the US. Even though it went “temporarily out of stock” on launch day (October 24), you can still place an order. The original C64 Mini, released in 2018, launched at $70 and now sells for about $51. The price jump makes sense when you consider that the new version includes several modern premium games that normally cost quite a bit on their own.

Most of the new titles come from well-known Commodore 64 publishers like Psytronik and Protovision. Just four of the preloaded Protovision games alone — Sam’s Journey, A Pig Quest, MW Ultra, and Yeti Mountain, would normally cost around $55 combined. These are impressive modern C64 games built with great attention to detail. For example, Sam’s Journey has more than 2,000 screens across 30 levels, making it one of the biggest retro-style platformers ever made.

The Black Edition includes everything from the original package: the mini computer itself, a USB joystick, HDMI cable, USB power cable, and instruction booklet. You’ll need your own USB adapter for power, but any regular one will do, or you can plug it into your TV’s USB port.

The console is about half the size of the original Commodore 64. Its keyboard doesn’t actually work, but you can connect a regular USB keyboard to use BASIC commands or play extra games from a USB stick. There’s also a second USB port for an extra joystick, perfect for multiplayer.

Games run in 720p HD and you can choose between a crisp modern look or the old-school 4:3 style. There’s also a scanline filter to give that nostalgic CRT vibe. Each game includes four save slots, so you can stop and continue anytime.

Alongside the C64 Mini, there’s also a cool accessory worth checking out, the 8BitDo Retro Mechanical Keyboard: C64 Edition. It’s designed to look like a Commodore keyboard and even comes with removable arcade-style buttons and a mini joystick. It works wirelessly or with a cable, and it’s currently on sale for about $93 (down from $110).

Retro Games Limited also makes the Atari 400 Mini, another nostalgic mini computer that costs $120. It plays classic Atari 8-bit and 5200 console games.

If you’re a retro gaming fan or someone who grew up with the Commodore 64, The C64 Mini Black Edition is a fun, nostalgic, and modern way to relive those classic gaming days, with plenty of new adventures included right out of the box.
