Emma Stone is moving beyond her La La Land days and diving into the cosmic with her upcoming sci-fi dark comedy, Bugonia. The Oscar winner has been busy with promotions, and the film has already stirred excitement online, especially after fans got a glimpse of her striking bald look in the trailer. But Emma made an even bigger splash when she openly declared her belief in aliens.
On August 28, 2025, at the Venice Film Festival while promoting Bugonia, the 36-year-old star confidently stated, “Yes, I’m coming out and saying it: I believe in aliens!” She explained that her fascination with extraterrestrial life comes from the late astronomer Carl Sagan. Emma shared that Sagan’s cosmic philosophy convinced her that, given the vastness of the universe, it’s statistically likely intelligent life exists elsewhere.
Gushing about Sagan’s work, she told the press, “I watched his show, Cosmos, and fell madly in love with his philosophy and his science and how brilliant he seems to be. The idea that we are alone in this vast expanse of the universe—truly not that we’re being watched but that we’re alone out here—is a pretty narcissistic thing to think.”
Emma also talked about her role in Bugonia, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival on the same day. Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, the film features Emma as a powerful, wealthy CEO who is kidnapped by two conspiracy theorists convinced she is an alien plotting to destroy Earth. In her usual playful style, Emma asked the journalists, “How do you know I’m not an alien?”
Her cosmic outlook and bold choice of roles have left fans both excited and intrigued, and Bugonia is shaping up to be a memorable addition to her filmography.
