Fans of the iconic Mortal Kombat franchise will have to wait a bit longer for the sequel, as the release of Mortal Kombat II has been postponed from October 24, 2025, to May 15, 2026. The official Instagram page of the film confirmed the new date, citing intense competition from other major releases, including a Bruce Springsteen biopic and a Colleen Hoover adaptation. Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema shared a cinematic-themed message:

“The tournament demands a new time and place, worthy of its spectacle. Mortal Kombat II – only in theaters May 15, 2026.”

What to Expect from Mortal Kombat II
The upcoming sequel continues the story from the 2021 hit film, inspired by the beloved video game series. The original Mortal Kombat followed Earth’s warriors—Cole Young, Sonya Blade, and Kano—uniting against fighters from Outworld. Praised for its martial arts sequences and high-octane action, the first film cemented its place in action-fantasy cinema.

The trailer for Mortal Kombat II, released in July 2025, broke records with over 107 million views within hours. Fans are expecting even more intense action and expanded fight sequences. Simon McQuoid returns as director, and the ensemble cast includes Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Mehcad Brooks, Josh Lawson, Karl Urban, and more.

Tan gained recognition in Netflix’s Iron Fist and later starred in Into the Badlands. His film credits include Deadpool 2, Wu Assassins, Fistful of Vengeance, Shadow and Bone, and Cobra Kai.

Australian actress Jessica McNamee started on television before transitioning to films. Her notable projects include Packed to the Rafters, Sirens, The Vow, Battle of the Sexes, Chips, and The Meg. She has been married to Patrick Caruso since 2019.
