He shared that melodramas have always been a genre actors hope to work in, and the opportunity to portray a relatable, grounded character in My Youth excited him. His role as Sun Woo Hae, opposite Chun Woo Hee’s Sung Je Yeon, allowed him to explore everyday emotions and a realistic storyline, something he felt had been missing from many of his previous roles.
The story revolves around characters reconnecting as adults after years apart, and Song Joong Ki admitted that the theme of reunion personally resonates with him, describing it as having a fluttering feeling.
