The Conjuring: Last Rites marks the fourth Conjuring film for director Michael Chaves and the ninth installment in the Conjuring Universe, which has grossed over $2 billion worldwide. Returning are fan-favorite detectives Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, along with producers James Wan and Peter Safran, the original architects of the franchise. New additions include Mia Tomlinson and Ben Hardy, portraying the Warrens’ daughter Judy and her boyfriend.
Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson praised Chaves for his innovative and joyful approach to horror. Farmiga highlighted how his enthusiasm elevates even simple actions on set, saying, “Chaves brings joy… I could just be doing a 180-degree slow turn, and he makes me feel like it’s the best head turn he’s ever seen.” Wilson added that Chaves has grown significantly in confidence and technical skill over his four horror films, blending reverence for the Conjuring legacy with his own creative flair.
The film promises to continue the franchise’s tradition of chilling scares while exploring new storylines, with the Warren family facing terrifying events in a story that emphasizes both suspense and the actors’ performances under Chaves’ careful guidance.
