Married at First Sight UK returned on September 21 with a new batch of brides and grooms, and drama erupted almost immediately. The Channel 4 reality experiment pairs singles with strangers, who meet for the very first time at the altar.
One of the first couples featured 31-year-old recruitment consultant Sarah and 31-year-old team-building host Dean. While Dean seemed smitten, confessing, “She’s smiling, she’s looking at me and I think this is the woman for me,” Sarah’s first impression was far less enthusiastic.
“No, I don’t fancy Dean,” she admitted. “Dean is such a lovely guy but I’m gonna be completely honest, I don’t wanna rip his clothes off.” Her friend Caitlin added that Dean was “definitely not Sarah’s type.”
Things got even more awkward when Dean performed an impromptu rap for Sarah at the altar, prompting her to tell the cameras, “I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed. The rap is not something I envisioned, I have to say.”
Fans quickly took to social media to express their disappointment. Many criticized the bride for focusing so heavily on looks, with one tweeting: “MAFS p***es me off every year cause why are they so fixated on looks. If you’re that bothered find a man yourself #MAFSUK.”
Others mocked Sarah’s reaction, with one writing: “Sarah ‘my usual type isn’t working I want something different, a nice guy, looks don’t matter’ Experts ‘here’s Dean’ Sarah… #MAFSUK.”
The first episode has already set the tone for a season full of awkward moments and tough first impressions.
