Ed Sheeran is diving headfirst into the desi music world, and fans are joking that he might need an Aadhar card soon. After his collaborations with Diljit Dosanjh in Birmingham and Mumbai, and later with Arijit Singh on the song Sapphire, Ed is back for a third Indian music collaboration, and this time it’s with Karan Aujla. He confirmed the news during an interview on the BBC Asian Network with Nikita Kanda on September 17.
Ed recalled how his journey with singing in Indian languages began. He first tried Punjabi while working on Diljit Dosanjh’s Lover. He remembered how Diljit guided him through the language and helped him get the pronunciation right. His second attempt with Arijit Singh was very different, but still a learning experience. Then came the big reveal—Ed has just recorded a song with Karan Aujla.
He didn’t spill much about the track itself, but he confirmed that he’s singing in Punjabi again. When asked more, he shared that the music video was recently shot in New York and described the experience as really fun. The release is expected in October, so fans only have a few weeks to get ready.
Ed also spoke about why he loves singing in Punjabi, calling it a “very melodic language even without melody” and praising its poetic nature. He explained how Karan Aujla helped him get the pronunciation just right. Ed asked Karan to be brutally honest while teaching him the words, and together they made it work perfectly. This new collaboration has fans buzzing, as Ed Sheeran continues to explore and embrace the sound of Indian music.
