Chris Hemsworth is gearing up to reprise his role as Thor in the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday, but recent buzz had fans worried this could be his last time wielding the hammer. The speculation began after the actor shared a video on his YouTube channel celebrating his return to the franchise, which many misinterpreted as a farewell.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Hemsworth clarified that the clip was never meant to hint at Thor’s departure. “It was certainly not the intent. To be honest, my social media team assembled some footage and were like, ‘Oh, this could be cool. We’ll put some stuff up and thank the fans.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, cool. It’s been great,’” he explained. He admitted that some viewers misread the message: “Then I had a few people ask me about it, and someone on my team said, ‘Ugh, we’ve given the wrong impression here.’ We didn’t do any [damage control]; there was no damage control necessary. But a lot was read into a little.”

The Extraction star confirmed he has already begun filming for Avengers: Doomsday and described playing Thor as the defining role of his career. Far from signaling an end, Hemsworth’s words suggest the God of Thunder may continue appearing in future Marvel projects.

In Avengers: Doomsday, Thor is expected to play a pivotal role as the Avengers face off against their next major villain, Doctor Doom. Fans can also look forward to Hemsworth reuniting on screen with Robert Downey Jr. for the first time since Avengers: Endgame (2019).

Avengers: Doomsday is slated for release in December 2026.
