The Batman: Part II is officially moving forward, and fans finally have a timeline to look forward to. The makers have announced that filming for the Robert Pattinson starrer will kick off on January 1, 2026, reuniting the cast and crew for one of DC’s most anticipated projects.

The first installment of The Batman, released in 2022 after multiple pandemic delays, turned out to be a massive success, cementing Pattinson’s brooding take on the Dark Knight as a fan favorite. Despite the DC Studios shake-up under James Gunn, the sequel was given the green light under the “Elseworlds” banner, keeping it separate from the interconnected universe where Superman and other heroes reside.

Robert Pattinson will once again don the cape and cowl, joined by Colin Farrell as The Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth. Director Matt Reeves, who helmed the first film, has confirmed that the script is now complete. Reeves shared the update on Instagram, giving fans reassurance that the long-awaited project is steadily moving forward.

James Gunn also weighed in on the sequel’s delay, defending Reeves’ creative process. “People should get off Matt’s nuts because it’s like, let the guy write the screenplay in the amount of time he needs to write it,” Gunn told reporters. “You like his movie because of Matt. So let Matt do things the way he does.”

While plot details remain tightly under wraps, anticipation is already running high. With filming set to start at the beginning of 2026, The Batman: Part II is scheduled to hit theaters in October 2027, giving fans plenty of time to speculate on what’s next for Gotham’s vigilante.
