Lewis Capaldi has made friends with plenty of fellow musicians over the years, but Justin Bieber wasn’t one of them—until a chance encounter at a party hosted by Kylie Jenner in Los Angeles.
The “swanky” event was packed with A-list celebrities, artists, and of course, Bieber. Speaking recently on Capital Breakfast, the Scottish singer revealed he was pretty sure Bieber had no idea who he was at first.
But to Capaldi’s surprise, the “Baby” singer approached him, and they ended up spending the evening together. Capaldi thought this meant a new friendship had officially begun—but the next morning brought an unexpected twist.

During the podcast, Capaldi shared the story: “Bieber comes over to me and says, ‘Hey man, what’s going on?’ and I’m like, ‘You don’t know who I am—you don’t even know my name.’”
To his amazement, Bieber replied, “‘Of course I do; it’s Lewis Capaldi.’” The two then had a fantastic night, hanging out and chatting, and Capaldi came away feeling like he had just made a lifelong friend. “I was thinking, ‘Yes! Bieber and I are going to be best pals. This is huge,’” he said.
Feeling excited about the night, Capaldi sent Bieber a text the next morning saying, “‘Just wanted to jump on, Bro, and say last night was so special. Great guy, so nice to hang with you, such a dude,’” expecting a warm, enthusiastic response. Instead, Bieber simply liked the message—but didn’t reply. “Bieber aired me,” Capaldi joked.

On the music front, Capaldi recently released his new track Survive, which has been getting lots of love from fans. Bieber, meanwhile, dropped his latest album SWAG last month, featuring 20 tracks.
Even though Capaldi might have gotten “aired” by Bieber, it’s still a story he won’t forget anytime soon—a wild night at a star-studded party that almost felt like the start of a new friendship.
