The San Francisco 49ers have added veteran wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown to their roster on a one-year deal, according to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The move comes as the team continues to reshape its receiving unit ahead of the upcoming NFL season.
St. Brown’s signing follows the release of wide receiver Andy Isabella, who was recently injured during practice. After a workout with the team on July 31, just over a week after being released on July 22, St. Brown was re-signed to help fill the gap. The timing of his return gives him a fresh opportunity to make an impact on a playoff-contending roster.
Over the past two seasons, St. Brown has appeared in only nine games. However, he played a more prominent role during the 2022 campaign with the Chicago Bears, where he recorded 21 catches for 323 yards and a touchdown in 17 games. Despite a quieter 2023 and a brief stint with the New Orleans Saints in 2024, the 28-year-old still brings valuable experience to the table.
St. Brown began his NFL career with the Green Bay Packers in 2018, where he spent four seasons before moving on to the Bears. Now, as the older brother of Detroit Lions All-Pro receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, he has the chance to carve out a role with one of the NFC’s most talented teams.
San Francisco appears to be making strategic additions to strengthen both its receiver depth and special teams units. St. Brown’s versatility and veteran presence could help him stand out during training camp and preseason action. The 49ers also signed wide receiver Robbie Chosen earlier this week, signaling that general manager John Lynch is taking a proactive approach in finalizing his receiving corps before the regular season begins.
