Bears rookie puts pressure on Veteran for starting spot

The Chicago Bears focused heavily on improving their offence during the 2025 NFL Draft, using key picks to bring in promising young talent. Among their top selections was offensive lineman Ozzy Trapilo, drafted in the second round out of Boston College.

With Trapilo now in the mix, some veterans could be at risk of losing their starting spots, including left tackle Braxton Jones. Jones has been a steady presence since being drafted in 2022 and has started 40 games over the past three seasons. But this year, things are different.

According to Bears insider Bryan Perez, Jones is facing a tough battle in training camp. Not only is he coming off a fractured ankle he suffered last December, but he’s also trying to fend off a highly regarded rookie who’s eager to make his mark.

Jones is entering the final year of his rookie deal, and the team might not hesitate to turn to a younger, healthier option if Trapilo proves ready. Much of the competition will come down to how quickly Jones can get back on the field and how sharp he looks once he’s there.

With camp now underway, Jones will need to show the coaching staff he’s still the best option at left tackle—or he could find himself on the bench as Trapilo steps into the spotlight.
