Bayern Munich are actively making moves in the summer transfer window, with its sights firmly set on Liverpool winger Luis Diaz. The German giants have shown strong interest in the Colombian star, especially in light of several departures and injuries that have left the club’s attacking options thin.
With Leroy Sane and Thomas Muller on their way out and Mathys Tel linked to a potential move, Bayern’s forward line is going through a transition. The urgency to sign a reliable wide attacker grew even more after Jamal Musiala suffered an injury during the Club World Cup. In response, Bayern have prioritized bringing in Diaz to reinforce their attack.
Reports suggest Bayern have already submitted multiple offers for the 27-year-old winger, but Liverpool have turned them down. The Reds are reportedly demanding a fee between €80-85 million, a valuation Bayern have yet to meet. However, with Diaz reportedly open to a switch to the Allianz Arena, Bayern are expected to return with an improved bid soon.
But Bayern aren’t putting all their eggs in one basket.
In case negotiations with Liverpool fall through, the Bundesliga champions have also started exploring alternatives. According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Bayern have enquired Lyon’s 20-year-old winger Malick Fofana, who has emerged as a rising star in European football.
Fofana has been impressive since joining Lyon from Belgian side Gent. In just one season, he has racked up 11 goals and 6 assists across 41 appearances in both Ligue 1 and the Europa League. His dynamic playstyle, versatility, and age make him an attractive long-term prospect for top clubs across Europe.
Fofana’s performances haven’t just caught Bayern’s attention. Premier League clubs like Liverpool, Chelsea, and Nottingham Forest have also expressed interest. But it’s Bayern who are currently moving fastest in the race for his signature.
Lyon have placed a €60 million price tag on Fofana, who is under contract until the summer of 2028. While the fee is substantial, Bayern’s reported €100 million budget for new signings makes it a manageable investment, especially if they decide to walk away from Liverpool’s high valuation of Diaz.
As Bayern Munich look to reshape their attack and reclaim domestic and European dominance, the coming weeks could see significant developments. Whether they go all-in for Diaz or pivot to Fofana, it’s clear the German powerhouse is ready to spend big and strengthen their squad for the challenges ahead.
