The evening kicks off early with red carpet coverage beginning at 4:00 p.m. ET, streaming live on Playbill’s official YouTube channel. At 6:40 p.m., the pre-show special The Tony Awards: Act One will air exclusively on Pluto TV, hosted by Darren Criss and Renée Elise Goldsberry. This segment will include the presentation of several early awards before the main ceremony begins.
Hosting the main event is the talented Cynthia Erivo, a Tony winner herself for The Color Purple in 2016. Erivo has expressed both pride and excitement in leading the theater world through a night that celebrates its most remarkable performances and productions.
Viewers can look forward to high-energy performances from the casts of acclaimed shows such as Buena Vista Social Club, Death Becomes Her, Maybe Happy Ending, Sunset Blvd., Dead Outlaw, Floyd Collins, Gypsy, Just in Time, Pirates! The Penzance Musical, Operation Mincemeat, and Real Women Have Curves. Adding to the night’s magic, the Broadway Inspirational Voices choir will also deliver a special musical moment.
Perhaps the most anticipated highlight is the original Hamilton cast reunion, commemorating the musical’s 10th anniversary. Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr., Daveed Diggs, Phillipa Soo, and more will come together once again, promising a powerful and nostalgic performance.
An impressive roster of presenters will take the stage, including Oprah Winfrey, Keanu Reeves, Lea Michele, Kristin Chenoweth, Sarah Paulson, Adam Lambert, Samuel L. Jackson, Michelle Williams, Bryan Cranston, and Lin-Manuel Miranda, among others. The voice of Broadway legend Brian Stokes Mitchell will guide the evening as the official announcer.
As for nominations, Buena Vista Social Club, Death Becomes Her, and Maybe Happy Ending lead the pack with 10 each, while Dead Outlaw, John Proctor is the Villain, and Sunset Blvd. follow closely with seven nods. Acting nominations feature major names like George Clooney, Sarah Snook, Daniel Dae Kim, and Bob Odenkirk.
Finally, Harvey Fierstein will be honored with the 2025 Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre Award, a recognition of his profound impact as both an artist and activist. With all of these elements combined, this year’s Tonys promises to be a stirring, star-studded celebration of theatrical brilliance.
