Disney+ has officially confirmed the production of Goldland, a thrilling new K-drama set to premiere in 2026. The announcement has ignited anticipation across the K-drama community, thanks to its gripping storyline, star-studded cast, and accomplished creative team. Though the exact release date is yet to be revealed, fans are already buzzing over what promises to be a standout series.
Set in a fictional mining town devastated by the collapse of its coal industry, Goldland follows a desperate government effort to revive the region by building South Korea’s first domestic casino. What begins as a hopeful economic solution quickly descends into a dark world of crime, greed, and betrayal. The casino, named Goldland, becomes ground zero for a string of sinister events tied to a mysterious cache of missing gold bars.
Leading the series is Park Bo Young, who will portray Kim Hee Joo, a woman shadowed by misfortune and known in her town as ‘cursed.’ Determined to escape her tragic past, she accepts a job at the casino, seeking a fresh start. Instead, she finds herself accused in an attempted murder investigation and drawn into a deeper web of secrets and danger.
Opposite her is Kim Sung Cheol as Woo Gi, a gangster with a tangled past and a personal connection to Hee Joo. Former classmates, the two reunite under suspicious circumstances a decade later. As old memories surface, their bond is tested amid the growing peril tied to the missing gold and the people willing to kill for it.
The drama also boasts a powerful supporting cast: Lee Hyun Wook as the enigmatic Lee Do Gyeong, Kim Hee Won as the shrewd Kim Jin Man, Moon Jung Hee as the complex Yeo Seon Ok, and Lee Kwang Soo as Park Ho Cheol, adding both grit and unpredictability to the unfolding mystery.
Goldland will be directed by Kim Sung Hoon, known for hit action and suspense films like Confidential Assignment, Rampant, and the acclaimed period drama Chief Detective 1958. The script comes from Hwang Jo Yoon, celebrated for his storytelling in Masquerade, Memoir of a Murderer, and Rampant, ensuring a layered and cinematic narrative.
As production gears up, Goldland is poised to become a must-watch K-drama for fans of psychological thrillers, intense character dynamics, and rich, atmospheric storytelling. With themes of fate, survival, and moral collapse at its core, the series is expected to explore the true cost of chasing fortune when the stakes are life and death.
