We won’t be getting the fifth and final season of The Boys this year, but we won’t have to wait too long because, guess what, it’s coming next year. But even though it’s still far away, the actors are already giving us hints about what’s coming.
In a new interview with Deadline, Nathan Mitchell, who plays Black Noir, said that season 5 will surprise us. He said, “There are things coming in season 5 that you’d never expect, not even if you were guessing with a bingo card!” Basically, he means there will be unexpected and shocking things happening.
At the same time, Antony Starr, who plays Homelander, said something interesting. He compared the show to an accordion (a musical instrument that stretches out and squishes back in). He said, “The last two seasons were like stretching the accordion out, setting up the story. Now season 5 is like squeezing it back in, bringing everything together.”
He also said that season 4 was full of setup and clues that will all lead to a big, exciting ending in season 5. Right now, the team is busy filming that dramatic conclusion.
Last year, before he even read the scripts, Jack Quaid (who plays Hughie) joked that season 5 would probably have “a lot of murder” because the writers can basically do anything they want. That’s the kind of crazy and wild show The Boys is.
So, what do we actually know for sure about season 5? And what about the new spin-off show, Vought Rising? Keep reading to find out — but just a warning, there will be big spoilers from seasons 1 to 4!
The Boys season 5 release date speculation
We don’t know the exact release date for season 5 of The Boys yet, but we do know it’s coming in 2026. This was confirmed by actor Karl Urban in an Instagram post.
In the post, Karl shared a photo with his co-star Jeffrey Dean Morgan and wrote:
Working with the illustrious @jeffreydeanmorgan was the best part of my day every day. That’s all @theboystv for now folks. See you in …2 years (wish it was sooner) for the final season on @primevideo.
So yes, the final season will be here in 2026.
This timeline makes sense because there were also two-year gaps between season 2 and 3, and then between season 3 and 4. So, this wait is nothing new for fans.
Filming for season 5 started on November 25th, 2024.
The show’s creator, Eric Kripke, confirmed the filming start in an interview with Collider. He also talked about how hard it is emotionally to end the series.
He said:
I’m fortunate, in that I get to maintain my denial for quite a while because I’m so busy right now…
Just the amount of work, it’s so busy that I think somewhere in the middle of the season, it’s gonna hit me, and hit me really emotionally. I’ve been wilfully denying it. It hasn’t totally sunk in. That will be hard.
So even though we have to wait a bit longer, the cast and crew are already hard at work — and it sounds like this final season is going to be emotional for everyone involved.

Jensen Ackles is coming back as Soldier Boy in season 5 of The Boys. This news was officially shared at San Diego Comic-Con on July 26th, where Jensen surprised fans by showing up in person. The show’s creator, Eric Kripke, confirmed the return and said, “Soldier Boy will be a regular in season 5. The motherf***er’s back.”
Back in 2022, Kripke had already hinted that Soldier Boy might return. He said that he couldn’t imagine ending the series without bringing Soldier Boy back one more time. Now it’s confirmed that fans will see more of him in the final season.
That’s not all for Jensen Ackles. After The Boys ends, he will also appear in a brand new prequel show called Vought Rising. This show will explore more of the backstory and history of the universe.
As for the rest of the cast, we don’t have a full list of who’s returning. But it’s very likely that most of the main characters from season 4 will come back in season 5, at least the ones who are still alive. There was some confusion about the character Victoria Neuman, played by Claudia Doumit, because she seemed to die in the season 4 finale. But according to Deadline, she’s actually listed as part of the season 5 cast. On the other hand, we probably won’t see Grace Mallory again, unless it’s through flashbacks, since her character died.
There are also some exciting new cast members joining the show. Mason Dye, who played Jason Carver in Stranger Things, will play a character called Bombsight. Not much is known about him yet, but he was mentioned briefly in season 4 as an old Vought movie star from the 1950s. Some sources say he might also appear in Vought Rising, but Prime Video hasn’t confirmed that.
Another new actor joining the cast is Daveed Diggs. He’s known for roles in Hamilton, Snowpiercer, and The Little Mermaid. His role in season 5 is still a mystery, but fans are excited to see what he brings to the show.
One of the biggest surprises is a Supernatural reunion. Jensen Ackles will be joined by his old co-stars Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins in season 5 of The Boys. This news was shared in a fun video online with the message: “Season 5 just got a bit more supernatural.”
Jared Padalecki also shared that he will have scenes with Jensen. He admitted he doesn’t know much about what’s coming next, which he finds a bit scary. But fans are thrilled to see these actors on screen together again.
The Boys season 5 plot: What could happen?
We don’t know the full story yet for The Boys season 5, because the creators are keeping most of the plot a secret. But based on recent comments, it sounds like it’s going to be a huge, dramatic, and emotional ending to the show.
The creator of the series, Eric Kripke, told LadBible that they’ve been planning the events of season 5 from the very beginning. He said the way season 4 ended shows that this final season was always the plan. He added, “There’s no way the show could go on after what happens in the season 4 finale. For us, this is like the show’s version of the end of the world.”
Even the cast doesn’t know how it all ends yet. In an interview with ScreenRant, Colby Minifie, who plays Ashley Barrett, said the writers haven’t given the cast the final two episodes yet. She said the story is building up a lot of tension and mystery. She admitted she’s eager to find out what happens next because it feels so intense.
Colby also talked about what it’s like playing Ashley for so many years. She said it’s been a wild experience staying in that character’s mindset for seven years. What she loves about The Boys is how it uses fantasy and superhero themes to comment on real things happening in society today. Because it’s not a “normal” show, it makes serious issues easier for viewers to understand and accept.
As for what’s coming in season 5, Kripke has warned that there will probably be a lot of deaths. He said no one is safe and there’s no way to know who will survive the final season. While fans of the original comics might think they know who lives, the show doesn’t always follow the same path.
Nathan Mitchell, who plays Black Noir, said there are things coming in season 5 that fans will never expect. He joked that these surprises definitely won’t be on anyone’s “bingo card,” which means the story will be full of shocks and twists.
So, while we don’t know exactly what will happen, one thing is clear, The Boys season 5 will be explosive, heartbreaking, and full of surprises. No one is truly safe, and the end is coming fast.
Will The Boys season 5 be the final season?
Showrunner Eric Kripke has explained why season 5 will be the final season of The Boys. According to him, ending the show now was always the plan. He just needed to get Prime Video on board with it.
In an interview with TVLine, Kripke said that Prime Video didn’t pressure him to keep the show going. Instead, they asked him in a kind and respectful way if he was sure this was the end. He shared, “They didn’t force us to go on. It was more like, ‘Are you really sure season 5 is the last? You don’t want to keep going a bit more?”
But Kripke had made up his mind a long time ago. He said they’ve been building the story toward this final season since they started writing season 3. He and the writers always knew The Boys would have a five-season arc, and everything was leading to this moment.
Kripke added that he’s thankful Prime Video is letting them end the show the way they want. He said, “They’ve been great about letting us finish the story on our own terms. I’m really grateful for that.”
However, fans shouldn’t worry that this means the entire Boys universe is ending. Even though the main story is wrapping up in season 5, there are still more spin-offs coming. A second season of Gen V is already in the works, and another new spin-off set in Mexico is being developed too.
Kripke confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that the story of The Boys will stop with season 5. But he’s hopeful the world of The Boys will live on through other shows. He said, “This specific story ends, but with any luck, Gen V will continue, and hopefully we’ll have more shows in this universe.”
