Andrew Johnston, the 2008 Britain’s Got Talent finalist, has been found not guilty of multiple sexual assault charges after a lengthy trial.

Johnston faced two rape charges and one sexual assault charge while studying Opera. The verdict was delivered at Southern Crown Court, and the musician was visibly emotional, weeping as the judge announced the not guilty decision.

After the verdict, Johnston expressed relief, thanking the jurors and saying, “I’m just glad it’s over; it’s been super stressful.” He noted the ordeal lasted five years and affected his life profoundly, adding, “People doubting me, and I’ve not been able to say anything for five years… thankfully, the right decision has been made.” He looks forward to moving on and spending time with his dog.

The court heard testimony from one victim who described feeling trapped, anxious, and frozen during an incident involving Johnston, including allegations that he removed a condom without consent and forced himself on her. She also described an incident where Johnston grabbed her shoulder and was physically abusive.

The prosecution detailed the victim’s account of being choked repeatedly despite attempts to push Johnston’s hands away.

Throughout the trial, Johnston has maintained his innocence, stating the allegations were false.
