Charlize Theron is back in action, reprising her role as Andy in the Old Guard sequel, where she leads a team of immortal warriors facing off against a powerful new threat to humanity. Netflix just released the first trailer, which starts with Andy saying she feels at peace — but quickly shifts into intense fight scenes with Theron throwing punches, shooting enemies, and even tossing one out a window.
Directed by Victoria Mahoney, the film stars Theron alongside a strong cast including KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Veronica Ngo, Henry Golding, Uma Thurman, and Kamil Nożyński.
The story follows Andy and her immortal crew as they battle a dangerous enemy while dealing with the unexpected return of a long-lost immortal, which complicates their mission to protect humanity.
The screenplay is written by Leandro Fernández, Greg Rucka, and Sarah L. Walker. Producing duties are handled by Charlize Theron herself along with A.J. Dix, David Ellison, Marc Evans, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, Beth Kono, and Gina Prince-Bythewood. The story is based on Greg Rucka’s graphic novel, illustrated by Leandro Fernández. Rucka, Marco Valerio Pugini, and Denis L. Stewart are executive producers helping to fund the project.
The first Old Guard film was released in 2020 and became a massive hit, gathering 72 million views. The sequel was originally scheduled for early 2025, but Theron explained that Netflix’s internal changes caused delays, with post-production shutting down just five weeks in, pushing back the release.
