One Piece Chapter 1149, titled “One Second,” kicks off with a fun, colorful spread showing the Straw Hat crew having a lighthearted moment at a maid café. The female members are all dressed in cute maid outfits, and even Vegapunk Lilith and Jewelry Bonney join in on the fun. It’s a nice little breather before the intense action resumes.
The story then jumps back into the thick of battle, focusing on the fight between Scopper Gaban and Saint Shepherd Sommers. Gaban comes out strong, wielding his twin axes powered up with Haki (that mysterious energy all the strongest fighters have). He slashes Sommers into pieces, and here’s the twist—Sommers is immortal, so he technically can’t die. But because Gaban’s Haki is so powerful, Sommers can’t even heal or regenerate like he normally would. Basically, Gaban’s Haki is canceling out Sommers’ immortality—talk about leveling the playing field.
Next, things get tense as Gunko confronts Colon. She threatens to kill Colon unless Gaban surrenders. Gaban, who is Colon’s father, gives in emotionally. But Gunko shocks everyone by stabbing Colon anyway and throwing him off a tree—no mercy, no honor, just cold brutality.
Then the spotlight turns to Brook, the Straw Hat’s skeleton musician. We get a flashback that reveals he actually knew Gunko a long time ago—before he became a pirate, suggesting Gunko’s been around for at least 60 years. In a surprising twist, Gunko manages to snap out of whoever was controlling her and tries to rescue Brook.
But the control is quickly snatched back—this time by the mysterious and terrifying Imu, who’s clearly furious about the Holy Knights taking too long and the ongoing chaos as Mariejois burns down. Imu steps in personally, making a bold and chilling statement: “Mu will show how a God rules over the world.” It’s a scary hint that things are about to get even darker and more intense.
