Get ready to dust off your yellow plaid skirts and flip phones—because Cher Horowitz is back! Alicia Silverstone is officially returning to her iconic role in a brand-new Clueless sequel series, currently in development at Peacock. Naturally, ’90s fans everywhere are totally buggin’.
The exciting news was first reported by Variety, and Silverstone confirmed it herself on Instagram with a throwback post saying, “Totally buggin’… in the best way,” alongside some classic scenes from the original film.
This new series will pick up after the events of the original 1995 movie, which became a cult classic thanks to its witty one-liners, killer fashion, and modern-day twist on Jane Austen’s Emma. It turned Cher into a pop culture icon and made Silverstone a household name.
While the plot is still being kept under wraps, the project has some serious talent attached. Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (the team behind Gossip Girl and The O.C.) are writing the series, along with Jordan Weiss (Dollface). Even better—Amy Heckerling, who wrote and directed the original film, is back as an executive producer, joined by Silverstone herself and original producer Robert Lawrence.
It’s worth noting that this is a completely new series and not connected to the attempted 2020 reboot, which focused on Dionne and didn’t include Cher. That version never made it to screens.
The original Clueless starred Alicia Silverstone, Stacey Dash, the late Brittany Murphy, and Paul Rudd. It even inspired a spin-off TV series in the late ‘90s. Silverstone has stayed connected to her iconic character over the years, popping up in a 2023 Super Bowl ad and sharing nostalgic moments on TikTok with her son.
With the original Cher back and the show’s creative dream team on board, the upcoming series promises to blend throwback charm with a fresh, modern take on life in Beverly Hills. Whether it’s activism or accessorizing, one thing’s certain—Cher Horowitz is still a total trendsetter.
