Actor Haley Joel Osment is speaking out and expressing deep regret after a troubling incident that took place earlier this month at a ski lodge in Mammoth Lakes, California. During his arrest, Osment reportedly used racial slurs and was later charged with having cocaine and acting out of control in public. He’s now publicly apologizing, saying he’s deeply ashamed of how he behaved.
“I’m completely horrified by what I did,” Osment said in a statement. He explained that he was in a blackout state during the incident and didn’t even realize the kind of offensive language he had used until later. If he had known sooner, he says he would have taken responsibility right away. Osment opened up about going through a very rough time recently — emotionally and mentally. One major blow was losing his home in Altadena earlier this year during the Eaton fire, which left him feeling completely broken.
In his statement, shared with People magazine, Osment didn’t make excuses for what he said, especially the anti-Semitic slurs directed at a police officer. He apologized deeply and sincerely, saying he’s sorry to the Jewish community and wants to take full responsibility for the harm he’s caused. He called his actions a “terrible mistake” and promised to work toward making things right.
Footage from a police body camera, which has since gone viral online, captured Osment yelling, “I’m being kidnapped by a f***ing Nazi,” before unleashing more racial slurs at the officer who arrested him.
At the time of the arrest, police found what looked like cocaine folded inside a $20 bill, which has been sent for testing to confirm. A witness told officers Osment had been drinking at a nearby bar. Apparently, when the bartender refused to serve him more drinks, he got upset, started arguing, and later acted erratically, even trying to board a ski lift.
This isn’t the first time Osment has had run-ins with the law. Back in 2018, he got into a loud argument with airport staff in Las Vegas after missing a flight. Police had to step in after reports of an “unruly passenger” at the gate.
Even earlier, in 2006, Osment was involved in a car crash and was charged with driving under the influence and marijuana possession. He later pleaded no contest and received three years of probation.
