So far, HBO and show creator Mike White haven’t said anything about where the next season might take place, who might be in it, or what it will be about. But that hasn’t stopped fans from coming up with theories. One scene in particular from the final episodes of Season 3 has sparked a lot of speculation.
In the scene, Belinda — a character from the first season — is seen looking into the mysterious death of Tanya McQuoid, played by Jennifer Coolidge. While reading an article on her laptop, a headline pops up that says:
“Update: Tanya McQuoid project in early development. The life and mysterious death of Tanya McQuoid has found new life. The rights have been purchased by a private producing company, and even though the investigation is still ongoing, Hollywood…”
That brief bit of text was enough to get fans talking. Many believe this could be a subtle hint from Mike White about where the story is going next — possibly following a fictional movie or TV show being made about Tanya’s life and death.
One fan posted their theory online, saying:
“Could this be teasing Season 4? In Episode 4, when Belinda is researching Tanya and Greg, there’s a headline about a film or TV project in the works based on Tanya’s story.”
They went on to suggest that the next season could be about a production company making a dramatized version of Tanya’s life — and where else would they film it, of course, but at another glamorous White Lotus resort?
Others joined in with their own observations. One person noticed a detail on Belinda’s screen: most of the article headlines are from 2022, but the one about Tanya is dated 2024 — a detail that might be meant to hint at future events.
“You might be on to something,” one commenter said. “Check the dates. All are 2022 except the Tanya one. That one says 2024.” Another fan added, “Love how the investigation seems to still be going!”
And then there’s the art-world angle. A third fan remembered something Mike White said on the official podcast for the show — he mentioned being interested in the art scene. They speculated that maybe Tanya’s biopic will premiere at a big film festival like Venice or Cannes. That could set the stage for an entertaining story about artists, actors, producers, and publicists — all staying at a White Lotus resort while the lines between art and money get blurred.
