Nick Moran, who fans will recognize as Scabior from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, is recovering at home after undergoing emergency spinal surgery earlier this week. The actor was rushed to the hospital after experiencing severe neck pain, which turned out to be linked to a serious spinal issue.
Moran initially tried to brush off the pain, thinking he could manage it with some deep heat, even though his girlfriend urged him to seek medical attention. Eventually, he visited a doctor, who immediately sent him to the hospital’s A&E department. After some tests, it was revealed that he needed emergency surgery right away due to the life-threatening nature of the injury.
According to his friend Terry Stone, the injury was affecting Moran’s spinal cord, potentially threatening his ability to walk or speak. Stone shared, “He damaged his neck somehow, and it’s affecting his spinal cord and some of the things that operate your speech and your legs.” Doctors told Moran before surgery that he could lose his ability to walk or talk, making the situation incredibly serious. Despite the grim news, Moran reportedly decided that he would rather risk losing those abilities than face death.
During the complex surgery, several of Moran’s neck bones were replaced with artificial ones. The procedure was tricky due to the sensitive nerves in the neck and spine, making it a high-risk operation. However, the good news is that after the surgery, Moran woke up and was able to speak, a sign that the procedure had gone well. He is currently recovering, although he is moving slowly and wearing a neck brace as he takes it easy.
Moran’s representative confirmed that the actor is now back at home and on the road to a full recovery. Terry Stone had first shared the news of Moran’s emergency on Instagram, asking fans to keep him in their thoughts, and later provided an update saying Moran was giving a thumbs-up from the ICU.
