Colin Farrell’s Father Eamon Passes Away at 83

Colin Farrell’s father, Eamon Farrell, has passed away at the age of 83 after a long battle with illness. He died peacefully on April 9, surrounded by his family and the dedicated staff of Whitworth Ward at Beaumont Hospital. Eamon, a former professional soccer player, was a beloved figure in Ireland, known for his contributions to the sport.

Eamon played for Shamrock Rovers, a renowned Dublin-based soccer club, where he made a significant mark. The club confirmed the news of his passing on Instagram, sharing details of his career. Eamon joined Shamrock Rovers in 1960 at just 18 years old, coming from the respected schoolboy club Home Farm. He played alongside his older brother, Tommy, and was part of the Irish international schoolboy team. The two brothers famously helped their team win the FAI Cup final in 1962 in front of an impressive 32,000 fans.

In a heartfelt tribute, Shamrock Rovers shared a black-and-white photo of a young Eamon on the pitch, with the words, “Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam,” which translates to “May his soul rest in peace.”

Eamon is survived by his son Colin, along with his daughters Catherine and Claudine, and another son named Eamon. His wife, Eileen, also outlives him.

At the 2025 SAG Awards, Colin Farrell made a rare and touching mention of his father during his acceptance speech. He said, “Eamon, I love you. Catherine, I love you. My mom, Rita, my dad, Eamon.” He also took the moment to express his love for his sons, James and Henry, acknowledging the joy they bring to his life.

As per the death notice, Eamon Farrell will be laid to rest on April 12, surrounded by the love of his family and the legacy he left in Irish soccer.
