Mariah Carey, widely known as the “Christmas Queen” and one of the most iconic voices in music, is now in the running for a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The legendary singer received a nomination for induction in 2024, and she recently shared her thoughts on this milestone with the Associated Press. While she acknowledged the honor of the nomination, Carey emphasized that she’s not getting too carried away.

She explained, “That’s a huge honor. I don’t know if I’m going to win it, so I don’t want to get too excited about it. So, I just want to say that, again, it’s a huge honor, and I guess I didn’t expect it. I wasn’t really thinking about it. And here we are.” It’s clear that Carey, ever humble, is grateful for the recognition but is keeping her expectations in check.

When asked about the long-discussed grunge album that fans have been hoping for, Carey seemed enthusiastic but cautious. “I really want to, but I want to do videos, and I have just so many ideas for that,” she said. While fans might have to wait a bit longer for a full album, Carey teased that she may release a few songs from it. “I don’t think I’ll be able to pull it together by the summer, but maybe, maybe I’ll release a few songs from it,” she added, offering a glimmer of hope for her fans.

Though Carey is more associated with pop and R&B than rock, she recognizes that the music landscape is evolving, with people now being more “open to all different genres.” She also reflected on how she sometimes feels like a rock star herself, jokingly saying, “But I feel like a rock star sometimes.”

Whether or not Carey ends up in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, it’s clear she continues to push the boundaries of her artistry—and her fans will be eagerly waiting to see what she does next, whether it’s in rock, pop, or something entirely new.
