Even though life has gotten hectic for both of them, Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift are still as close as ever—just with a little less time on their hands.
In a recent interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast, the Shape of You singer opened up about his longtime friendship with Swift, reflecting on their early days touring together and how they’ve managed to keep that bond alive despite their superstar schedules.
Fans of both artists will remember that back in 2013, Ed joined Taylor as the opening act on her Red Tour, playing to sold-out stadiums night after night. But what many might not know is how much time they really spent together behind the scenes.
“I literally spent almost every single day with her for about six months,” Ed shared, sounding a bit sentimental as he thought back to those days. At the time, both musicians were living in Nashville, and they would often ride to and from shows together, forming a friendship built not just on music, but on daily life, shared ambition, and countless inside jokes.
Now, over a decade later, life has taken them in different directions—Taylor with her massive Eras Tour and Ed constantly writing, recording, and performing across the globe. Still, the bond hasn’t faded. “We probably see each other four times a year now,” Ed said. “But when we do, it’s not just a quick hello—we have a proper, six-hour catch-up. We sit down and actually talk.”
And these aren’t just surface-level chats. According to Ed, those conversations with Taylor are deep, real, and necessary. He revealed that talking with her often feels like therapy because she truly gets it—the pressures of fame, the creative process, the weird emotional rollercoaster that comes with being in the public eye.
“She’s one of the only people that truly understands where I’m at,” Ed explained, adding that even people closest to him sometimes can’t grasp the insecurities and mental toll that come with his career—but Taylor can. “She’s basically in the same sphere,” he said, emphasizing how rare it is to find someone who walks the same path and still wants to stay connected in a meaningful way.
Their friendship also goes beyond just emotional support. Fans will remember their sweet collaboration on “Everything Has Changed,” a standout track from Swift’s Red album that still gives fans all the feels.
And even though they no longer tour together or hang out every day like back in the Nashville era, it’s clear that Ed and Taylor have built something real—a lasting friendship grounded in respect, creativity, and understanding.
So, while their hangouts may be fewer and far between these days, when they do get together, it’s nothing short of special.
