Jillian Lauren, author and wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, was shot by Los Angeles police on April 8 and later arrested for attempted murder after a dramatic incident in the Eagle Rock area of L.A.

The situation unfolded as LAPD officers were helping the California Highway Patrol search for a suspect involved in a hit-and-run crash on the 134 Freeway. While officers were canvassing the neighborhood to locate the driver, they encountered Lauren standing in her yard — and holding a gun.

According to police, officers repeatedly asked Lauren to drop the weapon. But instead of complying, they say she pointed the gun at them. In response, officers fired at her, striking her in the shoulder. Thankfully, no one else, including the officers, was injured.

After being shot, Lauren reportedly ran back into her house, only to reemerge shortly after with her babysitter. Both were taken into custody. Police later confirmed Lauren had nothing to do with the original hit-and-run investigation. Still, because she allegedly pointed a firearm at officers, she was arrested and booked for attempted murder.

Authorities recovered a 9mm handgun from her home. Lauren’s injuries were said to be non-life-threatening, and she’s being treated at a local hospital.

For those unfamiliar, Jillian Lauren is known for her memoirs Some Girls: My Life in a Harem and Everything You Ever Wanted. She’s also the adoptive mother of two children and has been married to Shriner since 2005.

Shriner, who has been with Weezer since 2001, hasn’t made a public statement yet. The band is scheduled to perform at Coachella on April 12, just days after the incident.
