In The White Lotus Season 3, a scene that would have seen Piper lose her virginity to Zion was ultimately cut due to runtime constraints. Series creator Mike White revealed this during a discussion on The White Lotus Official Podcast. The scene, originally intended to air after Piper’s dramatic exit from the monastery, was meant to depict her acting on a personal revelation sparked by a conversation with her older brother Saxon, played by Patrick Schwarzenegger.
In the first episode, Saxon calls Piper a virgin, setting up the payoff for the finale, where she would have taken a step toward personal freedom by losing her virginity. However, White explained that the scene, which would have added around 10 minutes to the already lengthy 90-minute finale, didn’t quite fit the darker, more intense tone of the episode, which also involved Jason Isaacs’s character Timothy attempting to murder his entire family using toxic fruit.
According to White, the scene had a lighthearted, romantic comedy vibe that clashed with the more sinister subplot of the episode, making it difficult to include. While it would have added another layer to Piper’s character arc and her journey toward regaining control over her decisions, it simply didn’t work with the overall tone of the episode.
Despite being cut, the deleted scene gave Piper’s storyline a richer, more nuanced dimension, showing her evolution as she returned from the monastery to experience a new type of freedom. The scene would have featured Nicholas Duvernay as Zion alongside Sarah Catherine Hook as Piper.
The White Lotus Season 3 is now available for streaming on Max.
